Is ChatGPT “Dots” Worth Upgrading to Pro for?

beginner

The Rundown

In this guide, you will learn how to set up ChatGPT dots. You will also decide whether it's worth upgrading to ChatGPT Pro ($100/month) in order to use it.

Who This Is Useful For

  • Anyone considering ChatGPT Pro who wants a practical way to test whether dots earn their place in their workflow.
  • Content teams who want to research ways to automate production and compare their options in one document.
  • Consultants and business owners who need a first proposal with sources and visuals to discuss with a client or team.

What You Will Build

Your own dot, set up to work in the cloud, and a PDF proposal comparing three ways to automate a task you do regularly. Our test focused on YouTube thumbnail ideation: generating backgrounds, adding presenter cutouts, and handling text and layouts. Our dot returned a PDF with diagrams, proposed layouts, and citations in about 10 minutes.

What You Need To Get Started

  • An eligible ChatGPT account. Personal access is rolling out to Pro 100, 200, and 500 users over 18 outside the EEA, UK, and Switzerland. Business Premium and admin-enabled Enterprise have separate worldwide rollouts. Check dots availability before paying for access.
  • The updated ChatGPT desktop app, which we used, or ChatGPT in a desktop browser.
  • One task to investigate and any reference files that help explain the result you want.

Going Further

If you work in Slack, open your dot's profile and select Add to connect Slack as a contact method. We connected it during setup; you can DM your dot or mention it in a channel you have added it to. This gives you another place to hand over a brief or discuss a result. Slack messaging is separate from granting access to app data or your local computer.
