Build a Random Image and Text Pairing App for Artists

I built a custom web app that uses chance to combine random images and texts into new, unplanned pairings. It recreates a Dadaist technique I use often when making photobooks, which I previously did manually with physical prints. I used Replit to create a digital version of the game. It was easy to connect the app to Project Gutenberg for random texts and the Library of Congress photography archive for images. More importantly, I made it possible for users to work with their own image and text archives. So far, it has produced many new and interesting results, and other artists have used it too. Step-by-step: 1. I identified the manual process I use when making photobooks: combining printed images and texts by chance. 2. I used Replit to build a digital version of this process as a web app. 3. I connected the app to Project Gutenberg to pull random texts. 4. I connected it to the Library of Congress photography archive to pull images. 5. I allowed users to work with their own image and text archives. 6. I used the app to create new pairings and shared it with other artists, who used it as well.
