In this guide, you will learn how to create a fun, interactive lead magnet for your company without learning to code, helping you impress prospects and earn more business. This is the most beginner-friendly way to dabble in custom-coded marketing websites with ChatGPT and Canva Code.
You will build a branded readiness assessment that gives each visitor a score, a personalized action plan, and a clear next step. You will publish it as a shareable Canva website and connect the email and quiz results to a Canva Sheet.
Reuse this workflow for calculators, product recommenders, client onboarding questionnaires, team intake forms, and other experiences where the next step should change based on a person's answers.
Use File > Make a copy before adapting the assessment for another audience. Your teammates can comment and edit inside Canva, so the working version can stay collaborative while the published link remains stable.
Start with the free Canva URL if a custom domain slows you down. A useful experience you can test with real people will teach you more than a polished domain attached to an unfinished form.
Start with the customer problem your lead magnet should help diagnose. Describe your offer, the person you want to reach, and the result they want.
In our example, we created an SEO readiness assessment for small business owners. It turned a vague concern, "my website needs better SEO," into a score, priority areas, and a four-week action plan.
Open ChatGPT or your preferred AI assistant and use a prompt like this:
Create a lead magnet for [TARGET CUSTOMER] who wants to [DESIRED OUTCOME].
Make it a readiness assessment for [TOPIC]. Include practical questions that help the reader understand where they are doing well, where they are falling behind, and what they should do next.
Brand it for [COMPANY NAME] and keep the advice useful for someone who may become a client for [OFFER OR SERVICE].Review the questions before moving on. Remove anything that requires information the visitor will not know, and make sure each answer can lead to a useful recommendation. A simple checklist or PDF is enough for this planning pass.
Once the assessment logic looks right, ask the AI to convert it into a build prompt for Canva Code.
Turn this lead magnet into a prompt for Canva Code.
Build it as a responsive, interactive landing-page assessment. Include:
- the assessment questions and answer choices
- clear scoring or recommendation rules
- distinct result categories
- a personalized action plan
- a final call to action
- [BRAND COLORS], [VOICE], and [VISUAL STYLE]
- readable mobile and desktop layouts
Keep the logic deterministic so the same answers always produce the same result.Read the generated prompt before you paste it into Canva. Check the questions, result rules, action plan, CTA, and brand direction. This is faster to fix in plain English than after the experience has been generated.
From the Canva homepage, open Create a design, choose Code from the left sidebar, and start a new project. Depending on your Canva layout, you may also see Canva Code under Canva AI as </> Code.
Paste the build prompt and let Canva generate the full experience. Inspect the complete question and result flow before making cosmetic changes.
Click Edit to change the headline, body copy, colors, fonts, images, and other visible elements like a standard Canva design. You can also use Ask Canva to request a specific revision. Keep the scoring and recommendation rules unchanged while you refine the visual design.
Open Preview and run the assessment from beginning to end. Check that:
Pro tip: We hit browser issues with Canva in Safari during testing. If Canva Code behaves strangely, open the project in Chrome before rebuilding anything.
Add the capture step only after the assessment itself works. In Ask Canva, use a direct follow-up:
Add an email capture at the end of the quiz and save the email with the assessment results.Canva Code can connect the responses to a Canva Sheet. Open the Data panel to inspect the connected sheet and review Canva's access and personal-data notice.
Submit the assessment once with your test email. Then open the Data panel and refresh it. Confirm that the email and expected result fields appear in the sheet before you share the link.
Pro tip: Ask Canva to store both the contact information and the quiz result, then run a test submission and refresh the Data panel. A visible email field does not prove the data reached the sheet.
Anyone who can access the design may also be able to access its connected data. Use clear consent language, collect only what you need, and follow the privacy rules that apply to your business.
Click Publish and review the website settings before it goes live. Choose a free Canva URL or an eligible custom-domain option, set the search visibility, add password protection if the page is private, and check the social link preview.
Open the published link in a fresh browser window and complete the full assessment again. Test the questions, score, action plan, email capture, connected Sheet, CTA, and phone layout on the live site.
Canva Websites also includes website analytics. Open Insights after publishing to review traffic and engagement. Website Insights and some custom-domain options depend on your Canva plan (https://www.canva.com/domains/top-level-domain/), so verify the controls available in your workspace before promising them to a client.
