Use OpenAI’s New GPT Live to Plan Any Trip Fast

GPT Voice is usually used in the ChatGPT mobile app. To use GPT-Live on desktop, open ChatGPT.com in your browser instead of the desktop app, then start a Voice chat. Availability can still vary by account, region, and rollout.

If you see the intelligence selector, use Medium for a trip with research and conflicting constraints. It gives ChatGPT more room to work through a plan. Use Instant when you mainly want a fast conversational exchange.

Pro tip: To use voice AI more often, set your iPhone Action Button to open a new GPT-Live thread. Choose the intelligence level before you start a complex brief; switching it mid-session is easy to miss.

The key is to let GPT-Live research in the background instead of walking it through a trip one task at a time. Tell it the complete outcome, what a good answer looks like, and what it has permission to decide.

Use this as a spoken or typed starter:

Separate facts that need verification from your recommendations.

In the demo, the goals were a walkable Chicago weekend, great food, a relaxed pace, and one memorable dinner. That gave ChatGPT enough context to return a coherent recommendation instead of a broad list of hotels and restaurants.

Ask it to “decide for me” and “explain why” when you need a real recommendation. Put your constraints at the top of the brief so the first plan has a chance of protecting them.

Use the live conversation to make the plan more realistic. Interrupt GPT-Live as the plan takes shape, then add one constraint at a time: a work block gets longer, the flexible budget drops, or an outdoor activity needs a nearby rain backup. It can keep researching while you change direction.

Useful prompts include:

Give me the single best tradeoff first and tell me why.
Keep [NON-NEGOTIABLE] and find the savings elsewhere.
Build a nearby indoor backup for each day in case the weather changes.
Before rewriting anything, repeat the constraints you are solving for.

This is where Voice is most useful: you can correct the direction in the moment rather than opening a new thread or retyping the whole brief.

GPT-Live can use web research to find useful pricing and availability information, but use the result as a planning lead—not as a confirmed booking. In the recording, it found a ballpark hotel price and showed that it had searched sources, but the presenter still opened Google Hotels to confirm the current rate and options.

Check the original hotel, venue, airline, or booking page for current price, availability, cancellation rules, and hours. This is especially important when an event or a busy weekend could change the cost.

Pro tip: Ask ChatGPT to include sources and a “things to verify” section in the final plan. It keeps the useful research separate from facts that can change after the conversation ends.

When the voice session is over, do not leave the useful work buried in the transcript. Close Voice, then send this text chat:

Give me your final research as a memo.

This step turns the research into something you can scan, share, or update. In the demo, the plan included a budget range and a final recommendation rather than leaving the traveler with a raw voice transcript.

If conditions change, add the new constraint and ask it to update the same memo. Here, the presenter asked it to add nearby wet-weather alternatives so the plan stayed geographically coherent.
