The Rundown: Google Gemini's deep research feature can analyze any topic in depth and automatically transform your findings into interactive quizzes perfect for studying or teaching.
🧰 Who is this useful for:
- Teachers creating assessments from course materials
- Students turning study notes into practice tests
- Corporate trainers developing knowledge checks
- Tutors building custom quizzes for individual learners
STEP 1: Access Deep Research Mode
Head over to the Gemini website and log into your account. Once you're in the main interface, look for the "Deep Research" button at the bottom of the chat window.

Click this button to activate the research agent that will comprehensively analyze your topic by searching multiple sources and synthesizing the information.
STEP 2: Submit Your Educational Topic and Review the Plan
Type your research topic with an educational focus. For example: “The American Civil War: causes, major battles, and outcomes” or “Cybersecurity fundamentals: common vulnerabilities and prevention methods”.
After submitting, Gemini will create a research plan and show you the message “I've put together a research plan. Let me know if you need to update it.”

Review the plan to ensure it covers all aspects you want to test. If teaching a specific curriculum, click “Edit plan” to add requirements like “Focus on 8th-grade level content” or “Include primary source examples.” The more educational context you provide, the better the quiz questions will align with your needs.
STEP 3: Generate Your Comprehensive Research Report
Click “Start research” and Gemini will spend several minutes gathering information from various sources. It creates a detailed, multi-page report with sections, key concepts, and important facts, all of which will become the foundation for your quiz questions.

Once complete, review the report to make sure it covers the depth and breadth needed for your quiz. The AI will pull from this content to create questions, so comprehensive research leads to better assessment materials.
STEP 4: Transform Research into an Interactive Quiz
In the top-right corner of your research report, click the “Create” button. From the five options that appear (Web page, Infographic, Quiz, Audio Overview, Describe your own app), select “Quiz”.
This opens a new window where Gemini automatically generates an interactive quiz based on your research. The quiz will include:
- Multiple choice questions drawn from key facts
- Hints to answer the correct answer
- Explanations of why you chosee the correct/incorrect option

Pro tip: After generating the quiz, review each question for accuracy and appropriate difficulty level. You can modify questions in the code view to better match your students' learning objectives or add hints for struggling learners.
