The Rundown: In this tutorial you will use Gumloop to gather insights from subreddits. Reddit is an underrated goldmine for uncovering customer pain points, and product feedback. I’ve personally used it to validate ideas, spot opportunities, and get a feel for the sentiment in different markets.

🧰 Who is this useful for:

  • Research teams gathering competitor insights
  • Marketing teams shaping brand voice or content strategy
  • Product teams testing new ideas against community sentiment
  • Solo founders looking for quick, honest feedback from real users

STEP 1: Accessing Gumloop

Head over to Gumloop. Once you’re in, find Gumloop templates and look for one called Reddit Insights Generator. This ensures that you don't start from scratch. All the nodes are ready for you to simply fill out and customize.

STEP 2: Find and enter the subreddit you want Gumloop to research

Here’s where you’ll enter:

  • The subreddit name (e.g., apps)
  • The topics you’re interested in, I chose “Mobile app for calorie tracking.”

From here, Gumloop gives you two options:

  1. Pull top Reddit posts from the last week
  2. Pull top Reddit posts from the last month (better if you want more volume)

My opinion: I usually go with the last month. Weekly can sometimes be too narrow, especially if you’re exploring a niche.

In the interface, you’ll see fields to set your parameters. For example:

  • Subreddit: apps
  • Topic: calorie tracking
  • Timeframe: last month

What I love about this step is how easy it is to experiment. Want to test a different idea? Just swap out the topic or subreddit. No messy setup.

STEP 3: Once you've entered your details, run the workflow

Click Run. Gumloop will now:

  • Gather top posts that match your criteria
  • Pull not just the posts, but also comments, opinions, and context
  • Organize everything into a clear string output

The first time I ran this, I was surprised at how much sentiment data reflected in the results. It wasn’t just “here’s a list of posts.” It actually revealed patterns, like:

  • Why people built certain apps (solving their own pain points)
  • What kind of features users complain about
  • Whether people were excited or skeptical about new launches

STEP 4: Analyze the resulting output and iterate on the results

Once Gumloop delivers the output, you’ll get:

  • A summary of the subreddit’s focus (e.g., app launches, personal problem solving)
  • Examples of real posts with context (e.g., “I built this app because I struggled with weight”)
  • Sentiment analysis: Is the market excited? Frustrated? Indifferent?

My experience: The calorie tracking example showed me how creators often launch apps from personal struggles - and how the community responds to those stories.

Pro Tip: You can set up loops in Gumloop that's going to run this workflow at a regular cadence for you to always stay up-to-date with the market's opinion.
