The Rundown: Perplexity’s new Comet Shortcuts feature lets you create automated workflows using natural language commands that can be triggered anywhere in the browser with a simple /command.

STEP 1: Access the Comet Shortcuts Feature

First, make sure you have access to Perplexity’s Comet browser. Once you're in Comet, you can start creating shortcuts right away.

For this tutorial, we’ll create a shortcut that cuts through vendor marketing materials and sales pitches to give you honest, critical analysis of business tools and solutions, essential for making informed procurement decisions.

STEP 2: Create Your Vendor Analysis Shortcut

To create a new shortcut, type / anywhere in Comet, then select "+ Create a shortcut" from the dropdown menu that appears. This opens the shortcut creation interface where you can set up your automated workflow.

In the Instructions field, enter this prompt:

"Analyze this product and search for a real, unbiased assessment on the quality of the product or argument. Look beyond influencer and marketing hype and give me real, non-sponsored human testimonials. List potential downsides or alternatives."

Set the Mode to your preference, choose "Best" for the Model, keep Sources as "Web," and give your shortcut a memorable name like /vendor-review.

STEP 3: Test and Refine Your Shortcut

Now test your newly created shortcut. Navigate to any vendor's website - whether it's a SaaS platform, enterprise software, or business service provider. Simply type /vendor-review and watch as Comet automatically:

  • Searches beyond sponsored case studies and marketing materials
  • Finds genuine user experiences from enterprise customers
  • Identifies potential implementation challenges or limitations
  • Suggests alternative vendors for comparison
  • Provides a balanced assessment including total cost of ownership

The shortcut works contextually, analyzing whatever solution is currently on your screen, perfect for vendor evaluation meetings or RFP processes.

STEP 4: Scale Your Research Workflow

Once you've perfected your vendor analysis shortcut, create additional shortcuts for comprehensive business evaluation:

  • /security-audit to assess cybersecurity and compliance features
