The Rundown: In this tutorial, you'll learn how to use HeyGen to create your personal avatar and make it follow any script you choose. This works great for marketing use cases and could replace you on social media as the value of your time is high.

STEP 1: How to access HeyGen and create your avatar

Go to HeyGen. Here you’ll see the newly launched “Avatar IV”, along with additional HeyGen features like turning phots into videos, product placements, and video translations.

Head to the “My Avatars” tab. Here you can choose from a selection of hundreds of different avatars, each with a variety of looks to pick from.

Choose an existing look (your previously created avatar) or create a new one. (add looks for a variety of poses)

STEP 2: Write the video script for your digital twin

Enter AI Studio and enable the Digital Twin experience for your selected avatar.

In ‘Script”, write what your avatar will say. You can draft it yourself or ask the built-in AI.

Example I used:

“Write a short congratulatory speech to my colleagues for a year of hard work and success.”

Next, select the voice that most represents yours. You can create a voice with a premium membership. I pre-selected one created a few months ago.

Now you have the script and the voice ready, simply click on “Generate” for HeyGen to start processing your video.

STEP 3: Make iterations

Once you see the first draft, now it's your chance to make iterations by adding additional media and elements - add captions, backgrounds, or overlays if needed.

You can change your voice if not fully satisfied.

Usage limits: Free tier gives about three videos/month, so aim to get it right on the first go or consider upgrading to Pro.

STEP 4: Download and share your avatar

Share or Download: Copy a share link, add a password if needed, or export the file. Pro users can templatize for repeatable campaigns.

My opinion on the use cases here: great for marketing and social posting, a trained Digital Twin can quietly replace many on-camera tasks. Few viewers will notice it isn’t you. Bulk avatar videos can be a high-ROI play for many businesses who need their senior leaders to focus on more important tasks, while still keeping the organic social channels growing.
