The Rundown: Claude's new MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration allows you to connect AI directly to thousands of external tools like Google Docs, Slack, and more through Zapier's MCP server.
🧰 Who is this useful for:
- Business owners wanting to automate document creation and workflows
- Teams looking to integrate AI with their existing app ecosystem
- Developers seeking to expand Claude's capabilities beyond built-in tools
- Anyone wanting AI to perform real-world tasks across multiple platforms
STEP 1: Access Claude's Integration Settings
Head over to Claude AI and look for the settings menu. Click on the “Search and tools” icon (looks like a settings gear) in the left sidebar.
Scroll down and select “Add integrations” at the bottom of the menu. You'll see basic integrations like Google Drive, Gmail, and Calendar, but for access to thousands more apps, you'll need to set up a custom MCP server.

STEP 2: Set Up Your MCP Server
Navigate to Zapier MCP in a new tab. If this is your first time using Zapier, you'll need to sign up for a free account with generous credit limits.
Once logged in, click “New MCP Server” and select “Claude” as your MCP client. Give your server a descriptive name like “Claude MCP Server” and click “Create MCP Server.”

STEP 3: Configure Your Tools and Applications
In the Configure tab of your new MCP server, you'll see access to 8,000+ applications. Click "Add tool" to search for specific apps you want Claude to access. For example, search for "Google Docs" and select "Create Document From Text" to allow Claude to create new documents automatically.
You can add multiple tools, search for Slack, Airtable, or any other app you use regularly. Each tool will prompt you to connect your account credentials when first added.

STEP 4: Connect to Claude
Switch to the "Connect" tab in your MCP server dashboard. Copy the Integration URL provided (it will look like: https://mcp.zapier.com/api/mcp/a/[numbers]/sse). Return to Claude AI and go back to "Add integrations."
Enter a name for your integration (like "Zapier") and paste the Integration URL you just copied. Click "Add" and then "Connect" when prompted to authorize the connection.

STEP 5: Test Your New Capabilities
Open a new chat in Claude and you'll see your Zapier integration with available tools listed. Test it by asking Claude to perform a task using your connected apps. For example, try: "Create a new Google Doc summarizing AI." Claude will automatically use the Google Docs tool you configured, create the document, and can even provide you with a direct link to access it.

Pro tip: Start with one or two essential tools, test them thoroughly, then gradually add more applications to your MCP server. You can always edit, disable, or add new tools as your workflow needs evolve.
